God gave a sign!
It has become part of my regular routine to look up commercial properties for sale on the SW side. Today, when I opened the listings on my phone a property that has regularly caught my eye was back on the market for a lower price. I decided to drive over to the property.
I pulled in and counted parking places and once again there were too few for a growing congregation. Twenty-five in the building's lot. Twenty-five across the street. Not enough. The building would also require the installation of an elevator and one of our goals is to be easily accessible for folks of a variety of abilities. I sat in the parking lot and prayed.
Then I drove to a second location. A building in my mind that was a perfect possibility, but very likely out of the price range. I sat there and noticed the various ways it was deteriorating. Remembered the inside of the building and how it would need to be remodeled to meet our needs. I sat and prayed. "God, what do you want us as a church to do?"
Then I drove over to the property that God supplied for the church several years ago. I pulled in and this is what I saw:
Some would say that this is a literal sign from heaven! Just this past week members of our church put this sign up in place of a handmade sign. And as I pulled into the drive I saw the sunbeam pointing right at it!
I got out of the car and walked. Listening to the birds sing, the morning sunlight twinkle through the billowing trees. I felt God's presence. I could imagine our future building on the site and I was proud of what it would be. In front of the building we would still be able to have our regular campfires. The large trees planted with love by Earlene Harrison and her family will still stand strong in front of the church building. Someday there will be a playground here.
Then I looked at what would be the "back" of the building - the area where we would park our vehicles. And there I imagined how beautiful a Sunday morning will be. It is just perfect! And then I knew that God had been answering that prayer I prayed all along. God has been guiding us to take this step of faith even when we've had our doubts. God has been leading us step-by-step forward even when we didn't know we were moving. God has a good plan for this church and a continually unfolding amazing plan for the use of this land.
